Patient FAQs – Payment, Fees & Medicare
The cost depends on the procedure length and complexity. We’ll provide an accurate quote in advance. Sedation for a typical procedure (like wisdom teeth) is significantly more affordable in-clinic compared to hospital settings.
Anaesthesia involves highly trained medical staff, specialised medications, and safety equipment. Your fee includes:
- A specialist ANZCA-accredited anaesthesiologist
- An anaesthetic nurse or technician
- Oxygen supply and all intravenous anaesthetic drugs including analgesia medication
- Full monitoring and recovery care
- Emergency equipment on-site
- Pre-operative assessment and after care. It’s a comprehensive medical service designed for safety and comfort
Yes. We use anaesthetists therefore our patients are eligible for Medicare rebates, depending on the procedure and your Medicare status.
We handle Medicare rebate lodgement for you. After your appointment, we submit the claim on your behalf and you’ll receive the rebate directly into your bank account from Medicare. Please note that any discrepancies or errors will need to be followed up with Medicare directly, we unfortunately don’t have any control or ability to correct Medicare rebates. We do however promptly lodge all rebate requests on the same day.
Typically, Medicare processes rebates within 1–3 business days after lodgement. Times may vary depending on public holidays or Medicare system delays. Please contact Medicare for any questions.
Rebates are based on Medicare’s own fixed schedule, not the full anaesthesia fee. They rarely reflect the true cost of specialist services — but we’ll be transparent about your rebate estimate beforehand. You will pay for the time expected upfront, if your surgery takes longer you will not be charged additional however if you’re surgery takes shorter a reduction can’t be passed on as the specialist has been booked for the expected time required.
Yes. Full payment is required prior to your procedure. We provide secure payment links online or via Eftpos.
In some cases, yes — please contact our team prior to your procedure to discuss flexible options. We’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
No. You’ll receive a full breakdown of costs before your procedure. We don’t charge extra for medications, monitoring, or unexpected changes during sedation.
Possibly. Some private extras or hospital cover plans include rebates for anaesthesia. We’ll issue an invoice you can use for claiming.

It’s a medication delivered through a vein that makes you feel calm, relaxed, and sleepy during your dental procedure. You’re not fully asleep, but most patients remember little or nothing afterward.
We’re often asked, “Can you knock me out completely?” or “Will I be fully asleep?”Not completely. You’ll be in a deeply relaxed state — known as conscious sedation — but still able to respond to verbal instructions so the dentist can open your mouth and perform the procedure.Most patients feel as if they slept through it. We aim to keep you as deeply anaesthetised as safely possible, while maintaining the ability to complete your dental treatment effectively.

Your sedation will be provided by a specialist anaesthesiologist, with the support of a trained anaesthetic nurse or technician to monitor you throughout.
They are medical doctors with advanced specialist training in anaesthesia, sedation, and emergency care. All our anaesthetists are ANZCA-accredited and have over 15 years of medical experience in hospital and private settings.

- No food for 6 hours before
- Clear fluids (e.g., water, black tea/coffee) up to 2 hours before

No. You must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the next 24 hours. This is essential for your safety.

No. Local anaesthetic is used for numbness, and the IV sedation keeps you relaxed and unaware. Most patients report no pain or memory of the procedure.
You’ll rest in a recovery area under supervision. Once you’re stable and alert, you’ll be discharged with your escort. You may feel drowsy for several hours.
You may feel tired or groggy for the rest of the day. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or making important decisions for 24 hours.

We bring full emergency equipment and medications to every case. Our anaesthetists are trained in advanced life support and emergencies, with escalation plans if needed.
